Since 2019, I have been working with the Škart collective on processes of displaying, mediating, and circulating their artistic practice. This has involved archival research, self-historicisation through oral history, the digitisation of archival materials, experimentation with forms of mediation such as public programmes and workshops, and the co-creation of a work together.
Oral history has become an essential tool in this process, enabling attentive engagement with their situated, multi-relational practices. I have conducted conversations with members of the collective and revisited the contexts in which their works were created, developing a deeper understanding of these works in relation to their broader socio-political contexts. It is crucial to me that this process remains collaborative: as the members are still active in their practice, we can collectively shape the archival material and the contexts through which it is understood and encountered.
